Yep, my husband still sings it now and then. He's from Texas so I think it was required to learn it in school. My dad had fun songs like that and all the Roger Miller songs too (You can't rollerskate in a buffalo herd) those were the days.
My mom used to play a cassette with a bunch of good road trip songs that included that one.
Other memorable ones were "I like Beer" by Tom T Hall, the "Dead skunk in the middle of the road" one (not sure if that's actually the tiltle or who sings it), "North to Alaska", "Convoy," "The Devil went down to Gorgia".
I love that song! I sing it while I do housework sometimes . . . I've never heard the real version before, though. It was just one of those songs my mother would sing to me as a bedtime song. Thanks for the link.
Love it! I knew every word! I'm only 31, but my mother taught me that one when I was a kid. I don't think I've ever heard it set to music, we just used to sing it (loudly).
I also love Amos Moses and The Streak - Mom used to have those on an old cassette.
Amos Moses
The Streak
- the original recording
- music video, more entertaining, but not the original
