i am going to get some baby chick. i live in indiana. what breeds are going to give me the most eggs for the least amout of feed?

Leghorns, Andalusians or Minorcas are a good choice. They're very flighty if not handled so they can get away from a predator quick (a good thing if you want to free range). They are lanky and don't eat as much as bigger breeds, which you want. And they'll enjoy eating greens if they free range, and the won't need to eat as much food.

You wanting standard, or bantam?
For Bantam the Sebrights are really good. They don't eat much, yet i have found they lay eggs almost as big as a standard size.
For Standard I like the cinnamon queens, the jersey giants, leghorns, minorcas, black sex link (AMAZING layers, i get an egg a day from each of my hens), or even rex sex links.
But personally i would go with the sebright, they lay everyday, they are small, don't eat much, PLUS the eggs are pretty big for a bantam. :)

Orpingtons are great layers of large eggs, they are low maintenence and very sweet tempered. I absolutely love them!

my red sex links are the best layers, very large eggs in comparison to my other chickens, an australorp, orpington and barred rock. They are small chickens and forage all day.

thank u. i ended up getting 5 leghorns 2 sexlinks and 2 grey bannies.
