Who is Tonto, and to an extent, The Lone Ranger?

so you know how to use an internet forum, but not Google?

One thing that always bugged me, is that "Tonto" means "stupid" in Spanish

There was also a short-lived cartoon of The Lone Ranger and I used to watch it once in awhile

Hi! When I was almost 5, I befriended one of my Dads huge boar-hogs (a giant white fellow), named him 'Tonto', made him a haystring bridle, and rode him like a pony.
I had a Shetland pony named 'Buddy' at the time (about the same size), but the pony was a bad-tempered little fellow and nobodies 'buddy'. 'Tonto', the boar-hog was a gentle fellow and tolerated being bridled and ridden better than the pony did.
My granddad came along and said "I'd ruined him" by making him a pet. He went to sale shortly after and a 'not-so-friendly boar' was Tonto's replacement.

*Google wouldn't tell you that, hahaha!*

I didn't know that, I always thought it meant 'side-kick/friend/buddy'.

The last line on the TV show was always, "Who was that masked man?" The response always was, "That was the Lone Ranger".

He also used silver bullets. Tonto called him "Kemosabe". When I was little, I thought he was the "Long Ranger" and was so disappointed to find out it was the "Lone Ranger".

Here's a site with some interesting info on the origin of Tonto's name:

Lisa, are you thinking of Kemosabe, the name Tonto called the Lone Ranger? It means "faithful friend", or "trusty scout".

Well, when many of us were kids, we were lucky to have access to 2, maybe 3 different channels of TV. Saturday mornings were dedicated to kid-oriented shows. So, the shows that appealed to youngsters tended to leave a big impression on us Baby Boomer/Jones generation folks. Westerns were extremely popular and The Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers, Bonanza and Gunsmoke were must-see shows for a lot of families.
