Wow, that is astonishing longevity! may I ask you what you are doing for them?My eight large breed hens that I received as chicks from Cackle Hatchery in April 2016 are my oldest collectively. They include 3 Cuckoo Marans, 2 Buff Orpingtons, 1 Austra White, 1 Turken and 1 Golden Laced Wyandotte. They are still healthy and continued laying eggs through last fall. And I have 14 Bantam hens that I also received from Cackle Hatchery in March 2017 that are still going strong including 5 Barred Rocks, 4 Old English Game Creles, 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Partridge Cochins and 1 Dominique. They make a pretty flock.
Quality feed, plenty of greens, fresh water and fresh air. Since this original post, I have lost one of the Buff Orpingtons, one Crele bantam, one of the RI bantams, and the Dominique bantam over the winter. And amazingly, two of the Cuckoo Marans and the one Austra White have begun laying again. I have never had any hens this old to lay eggs and I have been keeping chickens for over a half century.Wow, that is astonishing longevity! may I ask you what you are doing for them?
I only have two left from my 14 hens I got in Spring 2016, none of my 3 2017 hens… but then mine had a lot of stress with wildfires and evacuation…
