I got 8 Chocolate orpington eggs from a local breeder near me, and he bought his flock directly from Greenfire Farms. So I'm going to try my luck with these eggs

, I hope all of them are fertile. I set these eggs on 4/01/13.

I've got my hands on 12 Ameracauna X eggs and 2 Chinese geese eggs, all to go into my incubator tomorrow. They are rather filthy -- what's the recommended method for cleaning/prepping eggs prior to incubating? Because the eggs were just layed today, I'm holding them for a day at about 8 C.
Can I just run them under warm water, or should I soak them with a bit of detergent for a few minutes?

I'm starting my first batch late tomorrow night, can't wait! I'll be setting about 18 eggs from my own flock (Speckled Sussex roo + EE, Light Brahma, and Black Star) plus 11 from the friend who adopted my EE rooster (she has EEs and RIRs.) Also got a dozen more EE eggs and some barnyard mixes from a local CSA farm.

I started a hatch-a-long thread, please join in!

we pick our quail eggs daily and they're prettty clea but we rinse them under very luke warm water.. .we document each one by writting the day on them..and put them in the incubator each day...and take them out now a few days prior to the hatch..to another homemade incubator where we can increase humidity...we're novis and using a homemade incubator...but really in need of a real one...anyone know where we could get one new or used in North bay ont..
