Do You Have To Pay Sales Tax on Your Chicken Feed?

Pics
We don't normally get a 10% military discount at our local Fleet store where I buy my chicken feed. That would be nice. But they have a 10% military discount sale on Veteran's Day and Memorial Day. The tax-exempt status applies every day.

I do take advantage of the 10% military discount at Home Depot. But they don't sell feed.

Thanks for sharing. It’s helpful to know how tax-exempt forms and farm IDs work, but it sounds like a lot of paperwork over the years!
The last paragraph about payment for games isn't mine. I will look back to see where it came from. It may have been part of what I was responding to.

I do more with BYC than any other platform. Even compared to texting/messaging family & a few close friends...

Whew I wondered where that paragraph came from! 😲 Have you let a mod know? It looks very spammy, but so weird that it wound up on your post.

Well, it wasn't part of my original post - will go further backwards to see if it's in this thread, if not, I have no idea where it came from. I also dont know how to delete it from the reply to my post...

Ok, my BYC account is doing all kinds of "stuff". On page four, it had my reply w/ a copy of the post like I hadn't posted it yet...

Im not finding the gaming paragraph anywhere that was added at the bottom of my reply.

& now I will be expanding quotes when someone uses them... I only expanded it because I couldn't remember what i'd written. Otherwise i wouldn't know what had been attached...

How do I contact a MOD? I don't know how to do that...

I never paid attention to whether I was being taxed on laying ration, but it occurred to me to check recently and sure enough I was. Provincial and Federal tax 12% total. If I drive into Alberta, they have no provincial tax, so I could save 7% but the fuel required to get there and back cancels out any savings.

Well, in my home state of Minnesota, they do have a farmer's exemption if you raise chickens and sell some of your eggs, which we do. I buy feed at three different places in town. Each store has their own policy. The feed mill just asks if the feed is for my chickens and rings up everything tax free. My local Ace Hardware/Feed supplier automatically does not charge sales tax on animal feed, and the Fleet Store where I buy most of my feed needs you to fill out that form for tax exemption status.

One advantage to the farm tax exemption status at the Fleet Store is that some other items are also tax exempt. I recently had to buy some motor oil and that was tax exempt. That surprised me.

:idunno I asked Fleet if they had a list of things that were tax exempt for us with farm exemptions, but they told me that they have no idea. It's just programmed into their computer system and gets updated when the laws change. So, you just buy something, let the checkout person know that you have a tax exempt farm status, and the computer checkout system is supposed to take off sales tax for the appropriate items.

Yes, 10% GST = Good and services tax.

I have no idea if Australia has farm tax exemptions like we do in some states here in the USA. But, like I said, it was worth 5 minutes of my time to fill out the form for my state of Minnesota and save ~$50.00 per year on my feed bill.

I don't know if the famers over here get tax exemptions, but for consumers in general GST is 10% except for food item like uncook chicken, milk, but milkshake is tax 10%
