Who knew they were that smart?

My outside latch is a carabineer. I cannot get locked in. My inside latch is a big nail that slides through the door frame, into a hole in the door. I cannot get locked out.

Both are out of reach of the chickens, and the carabineer has to be turned, opened, twisted, and removed from two eye hooks. No raccoons have figured it out yet, if they've even tried.

The string is to keep me from getting locked inside since the latch is outside.
Oh, I am familiar with the latch you have.
I used a screen door spring for 'auto closing' on all coop and run doors...
...and a slot and loop latch with caribineer for locking.

I might install some screen door springs on any new coop doors. That’s useful.

Could you add a picture of your inside latch, please?
I built a new door, so the nail goes through the door into the frame now. The third picture is a "storage" hole in the corner brace.
