Who laid the egg?

Finally! I got my first egg with my new flock, but it wasn’t what I expected.

I thought my French black copper maran would be the first to lay. But this egg looks like a Silkie egg. I do have a bunch of silkies but most are too young. I do have a full grown silkie that I rescued from the co-op but I don’t know her age. She acts elderly so I assumed she was past egg laying years.

Is this egg a silkie egg or a weird small black copper maran egg? If it’s my maran will she always lay like this or given this egg is small is it possible that her next one will be darker and normal sized? (Pictured: egg and the silkie in question).

Who ever laid this egg will not start laying a darker one.

Pictures of the bird you are calling a marans?

I noticed that my silkie hens laid smaller than normal eggs at first. So the Maran probably will lay more normal eggs later.
