Who laid this wind egg?

Bummer is when she lays a full sized egg all that color will 'fade' being spread over a larger surface. BTDT.

If it’s the Welsummer, I’m ok with that. She came from a gorgeous large terra-cotta egg with tons of speckling, so I wouldn’t expect her to lay this dark anyway. I’m going for a gradient!

Nine days later and no further eggs of this (or similar) colour. How long does it normally take between laying a practice egg and starting for real? Or does the absence of new eggs mean it’s really just a wind egg from my speckled brown layer?

My Black Copper Marans who first started laying eggs were the same color as yours. Then the more they laid, the lighter their egg shells got. You might be experiencing the same thing.

Based on pelvic points and vent, it was definitely not the FBCM pullet. And all the eggs I’ve seen I can attribute to my hens (I can easily ID them at this point). But one can hope!
