Ok have a "who done it" for ya. I am very new to BYC and I picked up "laying hens" a week and a half ago. I got 1 barred Rock that hadn't started laying, a rir, and 2 australorps.
So the day after I got them home I had a brown egg and a cream colour egg.
Next day the same. A cream egg and a brown like this
And that was the end of the cream colour eggs. I was just getting one brown egg every day which I'm almost positive is the red, then yesterday I got 2 brown eggs. I'm assuming that the australorps stopped laying and the barred rock started?
The one brown egg is smaller so that's what I'm thinking.
Can those black australorps lay brown eggs or will they be big cream colour? The australorps look slightly different than each other so maybe they are some hybrid? Can you tell the age of that big black one, she looks pretty old and I was told just over a year, but she might just be done laying, no?
Anyway. Sorry for the long winded post. I'm trying to post this with my phone and its no easy task with my fat thumb. Any opinions would be great, and suggestions on how to get them laying would also be awesome.
Thanks.
