so I have two buff orpingtons, two leghorns, one Columbian wynadotte, what some think is a partridge cochin and an unidentified mutt. 7 girls- all but the cochin came as a group from someone who wanted out of chickens. I have only had them for three weeks tomorrow so am still figuring things out-including how to deal with my bipolar roo Bud-he had his second strike this am and he may end up dog food after all but that's another thread. Anyway- every once in a while I get two of the darker brown and only one of the lighter. My thoughts are obviously the white are from the leghorn and the itty bitty one (almost a peach color sometimes) comes from either the cochin or the mutt..what I cant figure out is the orps and the wyn. sometimes I get two darker browns and one lighter- sometimes its more like what is here- one darker and two lighter. will they change shade like that from the same bird? Thanks for the info. I am totally addicted!

My hens' eggs sometimes change color a little. It's due to either heat, cold, stress, molting, lack of water, food or calcium. As long as it doesn't happen often, it's fine. If it continues to happen, something might be wrong. I attached a pic of two eggs from the same hen. In the pic it's hard to tell, but the one on the right is smaller, darker and a little off shape. The change happened right after her molt as she was getting back on track.
