i used to have 2 pet chickens a hen and a rooster they were my life but the rooster started to crow and i had to give it away. i wouldve kept the hen but they were too attched my friends cousin has a farm so i gave them it. It has been 2 yrs and i miss them. When i tried to get them again my parent and my family members said it was abnormal and stupid and chickens were for eating not pets i tried to get seramas but they didnt let me i have so much money i would love hatching eggs but they said no help me plzzzz

I have five hens (as roosters aren't allowed where I live) and they are the sweetest, most curious creatures, I can just spend hours watching them dust bathe, drink, eat, and try to catch crickets, it never gets boring! it was actually my parents' idea to get them, So I can't really help you with your problem :/

Good luck!

to be honest my parent also liked them and they were a joy to keep around wish they were still here i tried to get other pets to fill up the empty hole but nothing matched them and it was really hard because i raised them from chicks the funny thing is my mom told my uncle to get it i really dont know what happened

Get one of those bantam frizzles and call it a ground parrot. Nobody believe those curly feathered things are chickens anyway. Little darlings are a joy to have around. And when she matures she'll give you an egg once or twice a week.

i wanted to get a silkie cuz they look like dogs i just dont understand what my parent have againgst them their main answer is they smell

My first answer was no when I asked for chickens. My dad's excuse was that it would be hard to keep chickens where we live. Although, (a long while later), I did convince him

It was probably about a year after that. I think it helped that I was the one who bought everything (food/chicks/etc.) and still am. Also, I have to disagree. Chickens themselves do not smell. I was telling my sister just today how people thing that chickens are stinky, but none of mine are. Let me tell you, ducks are 10x messier and they don't even stink.

i know i used to clean out the coop everyday no smell my neighbors didnt even smell it i guess it was an excuse from my parents not to keep them
i mean why do they thinks it adnormal they said there isnt anyone like me so if theres someone who love all animals and expecially plz coment and why
also how do you do in school if you have them as pets do they help you make you feel determined plz reply

Your not the only one. I am a HUGE animal freak. I've had cats, dogs, bunnies, snakes, chickens, ducks, and hope to get a parakeet in the future. My sister thinks I'm a huge loon for liking chickens. They're just as good (or better) than other pets.

1. If you spend a lot of time with them you can get them to be affectionate like a dog or cat
2. They lay eggs, so you don't pay for food for nothing
3. You can break them from being broody, so you don't end up with extra chicks you can't take care of.

Chickens are a joy to have around, ask anyone here

i know right they are like the best type of pet but their main defense is it will ruin my school work id be to busy doing that then studing.i dont even play games much or some time at all.
IF ANYONE GOES TO SCHOOL AND HAS CHICKENS PLZ COMENT ON HOW THEY HELP YOU IN SCHOOL AND HOW THEY BENEFIT YOU

Maybe if you directed your parent to this wonderful site they might see things differently! You just never know. Maybe asked your parent to read some articles along with you right here at BYC and looks at all the pretty chickens images! Ask your parent what breeds they think are the most pretty and interesting, be it Cochins, Silkies, Frizzles. The list goes on and on. Then ask again about getting a few chickens after all the images warm their hearts! That might help some. You never can tell! Hope that might help you some.
