I have 37 Chickens, and 5 Ducks. They all have names, and their own Unique personalities! I sit with them for hours, I pet them, I Talk to them, I carry them, give them snacks. I go out of my way to ensure their safety! They are my babies.

I get the strangest looks from people when I tell them my chickie girls jump up and sit in my lap! They enjoy being around me and I am so devoted to them. My Mother even had a bad dream about me not being able to find my rooster Henry, she called me first thing in the morning to make sure he was OK

! When a friend comes over they are amazed when I reach down and pick a hen up and she coos for me. The majority of people in America are so far removed form the reality of other animals besides dogs and cats

I'm new to chickens and want my four to be just as sweet as all the chickens in these notes. Did you guys do anything special, besides treats & love, to bring out the lap-sitting, etc? Or did the chicks just develop their affectionate ways on their own?

Mine all seem anxious for treats and aren't afraid of me, but scream bloody murder when I pick them up, no matter how gently. (They are five weeks old.)

Oh yes I really love mine.

When the weather isn't so hot & buggy, most fav thing to do is lay out on the ground & have the girls come up & "chat".
Finding bugs for them out in our pasture.Picking figs & other berries around to completely spoil them.

Buy 20.00 worth of crickets, gone in 30 seconds LOL!
I'll check on them atleast twice before going to sleep, make sure they're locked up tight.
I could on & on..

ok i don't feel crazy now, I absolutly love me chickens and roo's my DH says, (their only chickens) and i just look at him like he is crazy!

I am guilty of putting the baby chickes in bed with me. the nights when they cant sleep and they keep me up...i will set them on my tummy and pull the blankets over them and they go right to sleep after they finish their sleepy peeps. Then time for me to sleep. The chickens go to the door and wait for the slidding glass door to open, sometimes we leave it open for them to come inside. We use to have to keep 3 roos outside the coop, and they would jump up on the outside table and eat dinner with us. and yes i am also guilty of eating and drinking after my chickens.

this is sooo kewl! I love reading everyones posts, 2 years ago we bought property down in Maricopa Az. About 70 mi. from Phx. I started this new hobby last spring with the cutest easter chix of every color. They grew up to be very loud mean roosters! Our family decided to cull them ( I think thats the word) For our 1st experience we ended up w/ chicken and dumplings in our face! In October we tried again...after coyotes, and owls terrorizing our gals!!!!!! we now have my 3 hens, 1 turkey, a great dane and a min pin all living in Phoenix in my backyard...shhhh don't tell. My boys think we are the biggest rednecks! The best part of the day is hubby coming home, bbqing in the backyard, trying to cool down, and playing w/ our chickens!!! I now have the greenest grass on the block. After 17 years of marriage, these chix have really given our family a new hobby to share and keeps my teenagers closer too. Everyone thinks we have flown over the coocoo nest. And I agree, we love it!!! We're still married, raising kids, and enjoying our chaotic life!!!! I am sooo happy I found this website, now I know I'm not the only "Chick gone wild!!!!"

Hey Bayouchica,
I thought I was the only one that layed out in the grass with the girls!! I love to do that when the weather is cooler than it is now. The girls come over and talk to me and see what I am doing down at their eye level, then go about their business. I do enjoy being in the yard with my girls sooooo much. DH thinks I am strange, but that's O.K. He rolls his eyes a lot when I talk endlessly about the girls. But they are such a joy. I have recently bought an incubator and have hatched some adorable silkie babies and some showgirl babies!! I am so excited! I wish I knew how to upload pics so I could show you all. There is nothing so cute as these showgirl babies! I will probably be putting some of them up for sale in the near future. I could just watch them for hours! Does anyone else have showgirls? I would like to be able to chat with other folks that have them.
