Who wants to play whats that Chicken?

And you know me, Justine, I don't even do that much, only hatching eggs from trusted sources and I haven't even gotten hatching eggs since my last Stukel BRs were hatched, over 3 1/2 years ago. William got his Stukel male directly from Marvin Stukel and he put that rooster through so many tests before he'd even put him with the hens in order to send me hatching eggs (William, aka Pine Grove, is an NPIP tester for the state of GA). That's about as secure as it gets.

It's not cruel to sacrifice if you have them to do that, like your extra cockerels, who may be destined for the table anyway. I do not have extras here, unfortunately.
I hope to not bring in any more for many years :)

I had to start from scratch so I had no choice.

I am so strict on biosecurity. No one is allowed past a certain point in my driveway if they are picking up chicks. I won't even let kids pet the chicks at sales for fear of them giving something to the chicks that someone is going to buy, and I NEVER bring home anything from sales.. not even my own birds.

Wow you guys have some tight security. I was just happy with myself for getting the quarantine area set up right.

Hey, I'm happy with you, too! You did well. We are just extremely paranoid because of what we've seen.

The rub is that because no one can see a microorganism, there may come a day when one floats in and we must deal with something through no fault of our own. We can't control the air and only so much can we control wild birds and other wild animals. So, you do the very best you can do and hope it's enough.

Yup. I try to stay out of the disease threads now because they cause me unnecessary fear. Especially when I've read enough and know the rules of new birds being brought in. I am a worrier by nature.
