Who worms thier chicks - keet - turkeys - - What do you use?

I have a whole bunch of chicks, keets and young turkeys. the guy I bought the young turkeys from says I should worm them about every 2 months. He said he uses a goat wormer - yellow tablet that you break in two. I found some but it was for cows. He said he adds it to their water and it has been really good for him and very cheap. I also found some other liquid wormer for chicks age 1 month and over.

does nayone worm their chicks?

I just got a batch of free range pullets last week, noticed some worms in their stool yesterday. Yesterday I also had to take one of my own pullets to the vet (unrelated problem, diarrhea, not eating) and while I was there, I asked the vet the proper dosage for Ivermectin for worming chickens, and she wrote down for me on a piece of paper


Dosage for Chickens:
.2 (point two, or two tenths) of a ml per Kg of chicken



one Kg of chicken is 2.2 pounds (i think. I should know, but my brain is foggy this morning) I bought some injectible Ivermectin, (50 ml was $29 at the feed store) and used the needle to draw up the dose and removed the needle and used the plastic syringe to put it in their mouths. Some shook their head like it tasted bad, so hold them steady for a minute or so so they can't sling it out. Tip their head up a bit when you administer, but not straight up or maybe it could go down their windpipe?
Just a beginner here, but sharing what I know. Anyone else jump in please...

The safest wormer for chicks is Wazine 17. You can get it at feed stores, Tractor Supply, internet.

Chicks, turkeys over 4 weeks mix 1 tablespoon to 1 gallon water.
I let them drink it for 2 days, but the label says it should be consumed in 1 day.

If any are laying, don't eat eggs for at least 14 days.

wazine is only good for roundworms
If you want broadspectrum go with the ivermectin-an easy way to get such a small measure is an insulin syringe.

One breeder told me one other way to use the Ivermectin.
She uses the Zimecterin paste that you can buy for horses and rubs a tiny bit under their wings. Ivermectin is a really effective broad spectrum wormer and is absorbed through the skin. I keep the Zimecterin around for my horses so this is probably what I will do if my chickens ever need it. It seems like a fairly safe way to dose.

Oh, I should say, I think she waits until they are older to give them the Ivermectin. Not sure how early you can give it to them.

Are you using the ivermectrin in the shot form? Or the paste form for you does?
WE have used the Wazine in the water just because we wormed the dogs and horses but not with Wazine*(which I thought was an over all wormer). I was told by a vet long time ago when you worm one you should worm everything/one at the same time keeps the worm population down.

Sound advice all around, but I would like to add that there's no reason to worm if they don't appear to have worms. I've heard all the horror stories about drug resistant worms strains, and now it's happened to me. I have a buckling with tapeworms that just won't leave. Please be nice to those who share a land mass with you-- don't worm unless you need to.
