Who would you pick for a Rooster?

Thank you jstlitlome! Also the advice was helpful.

So it's seems like people like roosters. I do like mine.

I'm just wanting chickens for eggs not babies...is it necessary to have roosters?

You don't have to have a rooster, the hens will lay just the same but I like to have a rooster or two. They're a lot prettier, protect the hens (if not that they at least keep a good look out for predators), and in case you want to raise your own chicks you can. Eating fertilized eggs isn't killing a chick, so your eggs will still be fine. I agree with what was said before, i think you should keep both for a little while longer, that way you can see if you need to get rid of one. As long as one isn't aggressive towards people or the hens than you can probably keep both

Why not keep both? It sounds like they both have good personalities at this point. If you want them for pets, you might as well keep them. Roosters are fun and interesting to watch. It is sad to say that many unwanted roos end up killed. It's up to you, but they won't have babies unless you let the eggs incubate under a hen for 21 days or so.

Zaxby's2, that helps...i agree they are prettier...so far they have been very nice... One has more of a protector & bossy attitude.

Yes. and I found this thread that has a good picture of a fertilized egg. Just be sure to gather the eggs up daily and they will be good eating! https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/774549/can-you-eat-fertile-eggs

But they will lay with or without a rooster. Some cities do not allow people to have roosters because they can be loud, but if you have some land you should be fine.

I was worried too when I realized that I had 2 roosters but I posted on here, and found that many people have multiple roosters just fine, which has turned out to be the case for me, at least for now.

Angel803, that also helped...I was worried about the whole egg thing...I wouldn't want to hurt the babies... these guys are really cute...

All this advice and input has been fantastic! And needed.

Thank you!
