Whoa!? What just happened here! Egg issue!

Hi friends!
Thank you in advance for the help! I came home today and one of my girls was standing in the corner tail up.. panting.. vent pulsating.. she wasn’t moving. She pooped what looked like pure water. I reacted quickly by giving her calcium and an antibiotic (amox). Within 10 min she jumped in nesting box and back out but then when I went back outside 10 min later there was an egg in box! It was the entire egg.. softer shell. She was walking around and eating and drinking. Fast forward 40 min later I go to tuck them into bed… I found another egg in coop below her..whole egg again but soft shell!! Did she just lay two eggs?! Could she have been backed up!?!? Does calcium work THAT well? Should I worry about her? I’m planning on continuing the calcium a few more days..until I see her laying hard eggs. Should I continue antibiotic? They eat layer feed an I always have oyster shells available for them. Has this ever happened to anyone before? Is she okay now? Here she is before and now after laying two eggs!?!? This was the second egg…thoughts and help appreciated!!

How old is she?

It is not that uncommon for a hen to lay a soft shell egg. Generally, there is no need for antibiotics. You don't want to overuse them.

Typically soft shell eggs are either a sign of aging or simply lack of calcium. I'd keep her on the extra calcium supplement to see if that helps.

She is 11 months old. My concern was her looking egg bound or sick and her laying two eggs! Is that even possible for them to be backed up? Both eggs were soft.. the second one softer than the first.. but fully developed and unbroken

Okay at 11 months, she may still be "coming on line" with maturing egg tract.

Yes, they can have 2 eggs if one takes longer to lay. Soft shelled eggs are very hard to lay, so it probably was stuck for a bit.

A hen lays an egg about every 26 hours, one after the other, so if one takes too long to lay, the other is already down the "assembly line."

Thank you! Since they both were soft that explains her having trouble laying them. She seems to be feeling much better. I’m grateful the eggs came out whole, with yolks… no sign of them breaking inside her.
