I first had my two rir roo's in small metal dog crate inside the coop, because the roo's wouldn't let my buff pullets in the coop. so I locked them up. So I felt bad that they were in such a confined space, So i put up two baby gates in the coop. I wasn't going to reintegrate the roo's because I'm getting rid of them. So there was no opening in the gates itself but the clever roo's squeezed between the end of the baby gate and the window screen to join the other chickens in the coop.
Luckily they accepted my two buffs that were integrated in with the RIR pullets during their jail time.
Needless to say, when I discovered their escape, I looked out my dining room window and said there was too many chickens outside in the run.
I had to chuckle at their cleverness.
