Rewriting entire post.
When I did the night time head count, I was one chicken short. The chicken was found outside, huddled. She looked like she was in death throes with a limp neck. Brought her inside, wrapped her in a blanket, held her close and tried to warm both of us up.
She warmed up (I'm still cold!), did some stretching, eyes open/eyes closed, snuggled in closer. When I was holding her, it felt like her whole body was pulsating. Almost like she had the hiccups! This went on for more than an hour. She would sometimes stretch her feet out or her neck out, but she was still here.
This is so different from any other animal I have held as they got ready and then moved on to their heaven. (Yes, I hold my animals when they are making their final journey, if I can, and I know it's their time. I don't want them to die alone.)
Every time I think she's gone, she surprises me and starts moving again. It's been 2.5 hours plus of this. She's still here, but I know she's making travel arrangements to go to chicken heaven.
She will be the first one to move on from the senior flock. My guess is others will soon follow.
Has anyone else felt/seen the pulsating thing before? (The others who I've held before and as they died didn't have the pulsating. Convulsions/spasm yes, but not this pulsating.)
