Hey all, I was running low on scratch so went to town and bought a bag from a different supplier... didnt want to drive all the way to TSC (BIG MISTAKE) anyways, when I got home and opened the bag it had a bunch of WHOLE CORN mixed in with it. Are my chickens, ducks, and turkeys going to be okay with it???? I am really worried!!!!!!! That is the LAST time I will buy scratch corn from them!!!!!!!!!! Yes, some of the corn is cracked... but not alot.

Please help.

Thanks........Tes

When I was a kid we used to twist off whole corn from the cob to throw to my grandmothers chickens for her. They would eat it with no problems but they were total freerangers and that was their "feed". The chickens we have now will not touch the large grains of corn in the scratch we get. It stays on the ground. However I believe if they eat it they will be ok I 'm sure you have grit or they have access to it.

Thanks Tx, as for grit... oh yes, they have plenty!!! Gravel driveway plus a creek loaded with sand, dirt, anything you can think of. I am just so worried... but I guess like your grandmas chickens... they will leave it alone if they dont want it.

I have a corn sheller on a post in front of the coop. I get corn from the field behind the house and run it thru it and they like it. It doesn't crack the corn just strips it from the cob.

Yep my scratch feed has whole corn in it and they are all fine and they just love it when I went to the corn field and took it off the cob for them too...Mine free range all day too and if you drop something they have it ...fast fast fsat...mine will eat anything... they even get in the cow feeders and get whats left..

Thanks all.... starting to feel better about it. But still... will never buy from them again!!! Not to mention, they charge 3.00 more than TSC!!! Oh well... lesson learned.

I've noticed that in my scratch also. So far, so good. I'd still rather the corn be cracked but it doesn't seem to matter to my chickens. I do try to pick the smaller stuff for my bantams. I worry about them choking.

I worry about them choking.

Thats what I was worried about!!! I didnt want that happening to my poor babies!!! And what I neglected to mention.... for once... DH was really worried!!! LOL... he never gets worried!!!!!!!!!

Speaking of the youngins... time to go let the duckies and roos out... candy time for the babies LOL. Hens have a couple more hours before they get to come out and play lol
