Whole seed Buckwheat for chickens (?)

Thinking of trying some unshelled buckwheat for my chickens. Anyone done this?
I want to try whole seed buckwheat bc that's what i can store long term.

I have not, though buckwheat groats have been commonly used. Its also common to see whole buckwheat sprouted or fermented for chickens. So you have options, even if storing whole to lengthen preservation time.

"Buckwheat grain is considered to have lower feed value than grain of cereal crops because of its relatively high fiber content and low digestible nutrients. Buckwheat also contains fagopyrin, a compound which causes photosensitization of light-skinned animals. High levels of buckwheat have resulted in an increased incidence of sun-burned broiler chickens arriving at the processing plant."

This is really great info. Im surprised that it successfully makes up that high a percentage in broiler diets. ty muchly

I would consider about 10-15% use. Will be ordering in bulk; i read that its great for long term storage with oxygen reducers
