Whoo-Hoo my chickens are using their roosts!

I have had 3 hens for 4 months now and they rarely use their roosts. Because I am a beginner, I figured they didn't like my choice in materials so I have been trying different things. No matter what I tried they continued to use the nesting boxes. Why not, they haven't needed them for laying-
Well today I used the metal closet rod hangers and wooden closet rods. We had some left over from a DIY project. Tonight when I went out to turn off the light and lock the chickie door, they were all on the roosts. I am so happy and feel proud. I won!

Interesting. I have a nice branch in the run for mine to perch on when they are outside and they ignore it. Someone told me they like a flat surface (which I have in the coop). My branch is much bigger around than a closet rod.

Oh well. I'm gonna take out the branch when it stops raining. Not sure if I'll replace it with anything. they seem to like just hanging out under the coop and when they want to perch they go back in the coop.

I had the same feeling. I have a branch in the run which they use, and I built a roost in the coop which I spy them sleeping on every night. It's a fun feeling to see the little animals enjoying something you built for them.

I have a ladder style roost in the chicken run, they use it all the time. They use it as their hair dressing table (preening)
