You're hooked. Soon you will be slowing down, looking at piles of scrap lumber, wire, and whatnot wondering if any of it can be used to build quail housing. I forsee trips to the back of feed stores, pawing through piles of scrap pallets and transporting your finds home. Your computer files will swell with pickled egg and quail recipies.

Is it a full sized egg or a mini one? (full sized for quail that it), sometimes the first few eggs are too small to let a chick form, at least with chicken eggs. If it's full sized go for it, if it's a mini egg, make tiny egg dishes.

Congrats!!! I am so excited for you!

We have a few Cortunix as well. These are our very first quail. We are breathlessly waiting on our first eggs. We have no idea which are male & which are female. I have read threads, and seen pics...but they still look all the same to me. (except for the two with stripes)

Not to hijack, but can/do you coax quail into laying in a particular spot by placing a dummy egg the same as you do with chickens?? And what wouild work as a dummy?

Congrats again!!!
You must be so excited!!

I don't think dummy eggs would really work, though I haven't tried it myself. I keep my birds' dust pans in their cages, and most of them lay in the dust pans.
