I have 5 standard chickens who have been together since I bought all five from a store. They are alittle over 1 year old. I have a rooster and 4 hens. A few weeks ago, I noticed one of my girls, serabi, was missing feathers on her head. I never see anyone attck her, but the hair isn't growing back, so someone has to be attacking her? I figured it may be another hen, but a couple days ago, I saw my rooster attack my girls away from the food. He hates me. We used to be good buddies, but that changed a few months ago. He will stalk me and wait until im not paying attention, and then he attacks. The other day they were locked up and one of my girls came to the gate at me and he attacked her away from me. I guess my question is he being overly aggressive to his ladies and should I remove him from them?

If your rooster is attacking you and your hens, I would not keep him. If you do not feel like you can cull him yourself, try to find someone who will take him, but with full disclosure that he is human aggressive. The first one is always rough, but I chose to cull our human aggressive rooster(he went after my husband and daughter) myself so I knew that he wouldn't hurt anyone else😞

I assume that means he was he driving them away from the food.

He is a year old, he is not going to significantly mature any more. Not change enough to alter the threat of this behavior. Even if you aren't worried about him attacking you I'd be concerned for any other people, especially kids or people that can't protect themselves.

I don't know why that happened with that hen at the gate. Maybe he sees you as a rival and is keeping his hens away from you. That may be why he attacks you. But driving his hens away from food is the exact opposite of what a decent flock master should do. He has failed as a flock master. There are too many good roosters out there to keep a bad one, whether human aggressive or behaving unacceptably toward his flock. The bad ones are a risk, a liability waiting to happen. And they take a lot of the joy out of keeping chickens. I do not keep a bad one.
