Who's Incubating in Nov. 2011 ?

Last evening during a wind storm we lost our power and I had to cover my incubator to keep the temp. up. I was afraid it would mess up the hatch. This morning I put the eggs in lockdown and two had already started pipping. Both are old english game bantam eggs. There are three more of them and four silkie/marans and two euricana's that are questionable. I candled two days ago and they all looked good except I couldn't tell with the blue eggs. So I'm watching and waiting to see what happens.

Thanks for the pics ! That's an interesting way to keep chickies ! I would be afraid they could jump out !

I never thought of heating from below. That's new to me. I always hang the heat lamp on another lamp with fake iron branches and leaves as decoration for extra support. We knew of someone's house who burned down because of the heat lamp from the chickies. So I use triple precautions (the clamp, the cord, and a wire hanger to hang it 3 ways to make sure it stays exactly where I want it - shining down in one corner of the bin).

Thinking about working on the 1 week old cage (after the bin) - to put it up on legs and building a tray underneath for newspaper to collect their droppings. Simply remove the newspaper underneath the raised cage to clean (should make it as easy as possible for my 12.5 yr. old who takes care of everything with the chickens.)

Hey, do you want to continue this on the "Who's hatching in Dec. 2011" thread ?

C U there !
