Who's Setting Eggs This Week[end]? [August 8-14]

we are suposed to get the CAT1 storm/TD/ or hurricaine on thursday night.

hubby got me one of those battery back up surge thingy things... i have no idea what it is really called...but if the power goes out, it runs off the battery inside the surge protector.

I go into lock down on Saturday...so i am too close to quit now...lol my hubby is such an enabler...

Constant vigilance or they do crazy things? Too funny, like what?
My 2 yr old once took the keys to a Yukon (I could hardly hoist myself into it sat so high) locked himself in, started car, and LAUGHED at all attempts to get him to let us in! Same 2 yr old used to take gallons of milk, drag into living room and DUMP out on rug, feed every last hot dog in fridge to eager German Shepard.
At 20 mos old, used broom stick to get medicine off of back of counter, UNSCREWED child locked lid, and spent rest of day getting charcoal pumped into stomach at hospital. Ate Desitin too many times to remember, couldn't keep it in babybag.
At five, cut all hair off puppy, ummm many more stories, these are off the top of my head.
This is the ONE child out of four, he made me afraid to sleep.

Sounds just like my boys. They broke the leg off a piano, destroyed countless curtain rods, broke enough dishes to pave a road, got lost multiple times, had enough ER visits to buy the local orthopedist a new car, etc. My oldest has oppositional defiant disorder and ADHD, the second has ADHD, third could teach a mule how to be stubborn, and the fourth was born with a severe birth defect but has learned to keep up with his brothers. I can't trust any of them to not do crazy things, like I'm sure someday they will think it fun to climb the gazebo or ride the garage door opener or something. It is always something around here. I believe in constant vigilance and trust but verify.

If the battery backup thing is the thing I think it is, you will be fine in the storm. We have one that runs off a car battery to run little things, like a fan or a radio or something like that. Power generator to run the fridge. We are watching the storm here because we haven't built the horses a barn yet, having just moved in -- we are still moving in people stuff! The weather has been fine, but I don't like the idea of them out in 12 hours of driving rain and winds.

Wow Sunnyskies! You certainly have your hands full!

Chicks inPR, Yikes! Hope Isaac decides to stay out at sea and you and your family are safe.

WRVGirl: I would go with, all chickens are different. Certain breeds are more inclined to sit tight, and there are exceptions to every rule. My first broody was a Leghorn and she was awesome. (Leghorns are not supposed to go Broody). Since then my Silkie and Silkie -cross along with my Barred Hollands have been successful broodies for me. I've got a Buff Orpington that has some of the signs right now and I would just LOVE to slip these eggs under her at lockdown, but I don't trust her to sit tight.

Ok guys I have A.D.D and I tend to go off topic ALOT. and so tonight I was sitting bored and wanted to share with you all the best cat ever in this world. If I were single with no children this is the only male I would want to spend the rest of my life growing old with. this is prattle he has 23 toes and one eye seven toes on one and six on the other and five on each back. ( most cats only have four toes on the back feet its a genetic mutation) we rescued him from our local shelter and let me tell ya he is just always there for me follows me sleeps with me and is by my side every minute of the day, and he helps keep me occupied while my eggs incubate .

While we are all waiting I thought I would share a story with you all. Years ago I purchased 12 guinea keets from our local feed store. One turned out to be a chicken who I named Chikeeta. She would sit on my shoulder, come when called and followed me everywhere. Not knowing much about chickens I thought that she needed a roo to lay eggs and never paid attention to how old she was, etc. I started noticing that every morning she would disappear into a pile of junk in the garage, thought she was after bugs. When I finally got around to giving the garage a total overhaul, low and behold I found our old cat carrier and inside were 72 eggs!! It seemed Chikeeta was a very busy lady. I felt bad about throwing them all out but had to do it. From then on Chikeeta's nesting box was checked everyday and on most days there would be a present for me.
