Who's Setting Eggs This Week[end]? [August 8-14]

I was showing off to a friend by candling a few, and wasn't sure what I was seeing. Still pretty new at this. Day 16, and 13 eggs in the bator.

Hey! I'm from California too!

i threw out some more duds...they were getting smelly. I got an egg in there deveopling and the shell is bending... Not sure if I should just toss it or not. I dont want it to go bad and then ruin the rest of my hatch. But the shell is pushing outwards. when I candle it is a weak spot in the shell. looks like a line where it did not get much calcium. so weird...

Can you post a pic of it?

Nice to meet you COOPER12! I looked at your profile, you have got some really nice birds! I love Penedesencas, I also noticed that you had some Golden Campines. I have a lonely Campine rooster that I do not know what to do with. I don't want to sound rude, but would it be possible to get some eggs from you? Maybe we could swap? PM me and we can make a deal. Thanks, Tina
Hi Tina,

I am down to Penedesenca and Icelandic's for the breeding
with a few ameraucana , ee and olive eggers for eggs.

Hi ya !!!

Wanna come tape mine closed while you're at it? I can't stop candling. I've been doing it almost every night; but I was reading that most of the new incubators offer a "cool down" phase once a day for 30-60 minutes, it's supposed to mimic the hen getting off the eggs to go eat and drink in nature, from what I've read, it's been pretty successful....so I keep telling myself that my candling is just the daily cool down period! lol
Ha ha thats what I tell myself too every time i open it to candle them.

Well, candled tonight. I think I am down to 7 hatch-able eggs. You guys were right the ones with bubbles did not develop. And the one from that group that did, has already quit.

Oh my goodness! I just candled and in one of my silkie eggs it stretched out its little legs I could see the shape perfectly even the little nails

oh this has to be one of the best waiting games ever! 2nd to pregnancy of course

I set 14 bantam cochin eggs and 60 coturnix eggs on the 15th. All 14 cochin eggs are fertile and out of 30 of the coturnix I only had three bad ones and one ROD. I love my Hova Bator. I think I am gonna do 120 more quail and put a few more chicken eggs on soon as well. TO YOU GUYS WITH QUESTIONS ABOUT CANDLEING.... The best time to candle chicken eggs is early. They should be easily visible after 4-5 days. If you see veins, a red spot that looks like a spider, or just a shadow with a nice oxygen bubble at the top of the egg and clear space towards the bottom, you have a fertile egg. You may see a bubble in the center that gives off a red shadow. This is a yolk. If you hold the egg up to the light and slowly rotate it in a turning motion the yolk will move like the air bubble in a soda bottle. An embryo will not move in a fluid fashion like the yolk and does not move like the bubble in a soda bottle. If you see a red line that makes a circle around the egg you have an egg that was fertile but the embryo has died. This is called the red ring of death.

I'm only on my second hatch (first time failed miserably) but I totally understand how exciting this hobby can be. Hope you have a great hatch!
