Who's setting eggs today (St. Pattys Day) ?? ??

For the hatch I just put in to hatch with you all I have the Sportsman 1202.

I have a hatch coming out now from my Genesis 1588. Olive Eggers and Frizzles are hatching now but I have Marans eggs that will take longer. Temp is reading 101 and humidity says 70% on the digital read. Could be wrong reading but it tells me what I can expect from future hatches.

For those that are just getting started....don't worry. The hatch I have today is my first in a 'bator. My hens or a friend have always done it for me. Yes, you lose a few or have clears but listening to these peeps behind me now, it is just too awesome not to experience. I set up the Genesis and walked away a few weeks ago. It was so simple. The Sportsman is a little more work but still hasn't been too bad.

Now on with our hatch! Grow, babies, grow!

I put in 13 Dorkings last night (hoping the odd number is offset by St. Patrick's!

) and filled the Hova-bator the rest of the way with Australorps and Brahmas (15 and 14 respectively), total: 42 eggs, totally full 'bator! Hatch dates the 7th and 8th. Happy Easter!

I haven't opened the bator once! I did get a turner. I have 5 kids and the chances of me remembering to turn silent eggs are pretty slim, if they made some noise maybe but around here you have to make alot noise to get noticed;) Or I would have little helpers and we'd have splat or two;) A turner seemed like a good investmnet. I opened the eggs at noon, moved them into the living room about 5 which is much warmer then the kitchen. The plan was to let them warm up in there till 8 or so. Well I fell asleep with the baby and when I woke up at 5 I ran down and put them in. How bad was that to leave them out so long?

I think they will be fine, remember a mother hen will begin collecting her eggs to sit on, and leave them there all day/night until she feels there are plenty to sit on. So perhaps the oldest egg she sits on will be a week+ !!!
Your fine!! I always try to think like mother nature when it comes to my eggs

I've been letting my shipped eggs sit for 24 hours before I set them - the batch I set this week arrived at 9:30 Monday morning, and I set them at 9:30 Tuesday morning.

Thanks Bell and Annarie! That makes me feel better. I was thinking I read 12-24 hours to sit out and come to room temp somewhere before.

I just counted I have 40 eggs in there - I would like them all to hatch but Dh might not like it - 1st time some I'm sure it will be much less
I keep looking at them like they are gonna do anything just put them in yesterday - I hope I can last 21 days with out going crazy
