Who's setting with me Sept 1st-4th?

Oh. My.Gosh! What a cutie! Congrats on the new little one!!!

I have been going over to my incubator almost every hour and just looking through the windows! I was reading that talking to them encourages them so I thought "what the heck its just me and the other animals home right now" so I went over telling them I loved them already and I heard a "Peep"! haha I talked some more and I heard another peep! I sound like a little kid but it was so cool! I hope I see some pips soon.

Congrats on the chick, Nicole! I love the black Amer. I have 6 pure black hens myself.

Animals, I think everybody aught to talk to their eggs, lol. The first few times I incubated eggs everyone here thought I was just nuts. I talked to those eggs every day, lol! ( I still do ) So just talk away, they seem to love it. Mine always perk up when I shine my small pen light into the incubator, checking things out.

Well, here are the stats on the latest batch--I have 8 healthy chicks, 1 sickly one still in the incubator, 1 died after hatching, and 2 died in shell (looks like they died a few days ago..), and 4 eggs that weren't fertile. (very dark shells, couldn't see into them when I candled, so left them in). I am very surprised none of the exploded!! I am happy with the turn-out, over the 50% mark, anyway.

Now, on to my Silkie eggs....I am putting them into lockdown in a few minutes....cross fingers, plz

I hope to have all 9 healthy and running round the brooder in a few days!!

That little one sure can peep! I went to check (again) and all I heard was peep peep peep! talking to him/her makes for more peeping! I'm like "please pip soon little one, I'm dying to meet you!!"

Edit: after looking it up through the internet, it seems that pipping occurs within 24 hours of hearing peeping! Ooo so excited!

My third pipped and hit a blood vessel. Ugh, I had that happen before and they pass in the egg. So weird, the blood vessel was just under the air sac.

I had two blacks hatch. One looks perfect, the other has fluid or something in the top of its head. It's walking funny and getting stuck upside down all night. I woke up and put it under the light. My first black is PERFECT! Hopefully the second black hatch will grow out fine.

I decided to order another pack and pay shipping. The blue was beautiful looking too, nice and dark. The two blues I have now are very light and splash. I've made a wire border/partition so the two sets of chicks see each other and integrate right away. We are making more room in the coop, so I can grow them out and rehome in the spring. It's too bad I can't keep them all.

My third one died in the shell. I opened it up and it was a beautiful blue! I'm ordering more today for one last time before spring. I swear I wasn't.:p

Last time I had 2 that died in the shell.:(

I love waking up to chicks chirping in the incubator. Everyone hear is used to it now. (They had no choice, lol. I keep the small brooder on the porch about 10 feet from my bed!)

Yay for the great news!
