Among our fresh spring babies, we got one that is the spitting image of her Light Brahma mamma.

The biggest question is, which rooster was the father?
~ Ancona
~ Buff Brahma
~ Silver Deathlayer

The next question is whether baby is a boy or girl.
... Momma only gives silver to her sons, right?

I am no expert, but I would think the Buff Brahma is the dad. This looks like a purebred Brahma to me. Maybe @NatJ would have a better idea.

She appears to have single comb influence?

I agree with the person who said your Silver Deathlayer may be the one who owes chick care costs.

Crossed with your Light Brahma momma...

- Mottled Ancona is black, and should have created a black feathered chick (split for mottled)

- Buff Brahma crossed with light brahma should have created a sex link? With buff daughters, and yellow sons? (*I used kippenjungle and it's iffy with certain crosses and may not be accurate here)

- Silver Deathlayer could have resulted in that color of chick? (Having difficulty figuring out what to input for the deathlayer pattern.)
*edit- the calculator seems to think that it should have ended up with the same markings as the deathlayer (transverse pencilled?)

Mamma has a Pea comb, but it could be rrPp or rrPP. The Deathlayer has a cushion comb (which could include "r" and "p"). So, it is possible that they produced a chick with a Single comb (rrpp).
I'm still stuck on the idea that mom can't pass Silver to daughters; but maybe she provided Columbian, and daddy Deathlayer provided the Silver.

I clearly didn't pay attention to the deathlayer. Didn't notice their comb type! I'm sure I've seen some with single, but perhaps I'm mixing it up or the genes lined up?

Were there any other cockerels or roosters around your flock within up to a month?

Is your buff brahma 100% buff brahma?
Just wondering if he could have a silver parent, so he could pass that on?

We also have a Barred Rock rooster. His babies are obvious =).
We have many other hens, but I don't think they'd make a baby that looks like a Light Brahma.
~ Dark Brahma, Black Australorps, Buff Orps, Chocolate Orps, Lav Orps, Welsummers, Barred Rocks, Ancona, Gold laced Wyandotte, Silver laced Wyandotte, Deathlayer.

High confidence that our Buff Brahma roo was pure. We got him at North 40 (via Hoover's Hatchery), and he looked so handsome =)

I think the buff Brahma is the father. If the Deathlayer was the father, the pattern would be messier, and the chick probably would not have yellow legs. White skin is dominant over yellow skin, in most cases.

If the buff Brahma is the father, then the chick is a cockerel. Female chicks of that cross would be buff, and male chicks would be silver with leakage, maybe.
