Well this is going to be interesting to see these guys grow. I had ordered LF salmon Faverolles hatching eggs from McCallums flock and was quite surprised when these guys hatched. Obviously they are not Fav's, but look to be a mix. Some have 5 toes some have 4 and some have odd numbers. When they first hatched they looked like they had pea combs, but now that they are dry and out of the bator I can see that it's little single combs. There are small beards on some and varying amounts of leg feathering. At first I thought they would be black chicks, but now that they are dry they look like they may be barred. At first I was quite upset about this, but the longer I look at these cute guys the more I like them and the possibility of a color project keeps rolling around in my head. I have contacted McCallums and they apologized and are replacing the eggs, but didn't have an answer to what had happened.
So now the question is 'who is the daddy'? I thought I would post some pics and see if anyone may recognize a resemblance to any breed.

I'm going by the toes........the chicken breeds with 5 toes are: Silkies,Dorkings,Faverolles,Houdans and Sultans. (They may be more I'm not sure though.) But looks like you have one of those breeds mixed with something else.

Well yeah that's what I meant, they are half faverolle for sure, but I was trying to figure out what the other half is. The other one has to be a 4 toed breed though, because I have 4 and 5 toed chicks.

Black chicks with white head spots make me think of barred chickens: Dominiques or Barred Rock or Cuckoo Marans (maybe).

Of those only the Dominique has a non-straight (Rose ) comb. So I am going with FaverollesxDominique. Could you contact them again and see if they have (or had) and Dominique Roos or if they just got one of their hens at a swap (where she might have been exposed to a different rooster). If they free range I guess there is alway a chance someone jumped the fence for unautorized extracurricular activities.

I checked their website and can't find any matching breeds and I was told the only possibility would have been swapped eggs, but these little guys are mutts for sure. I can clearly see faverolles traits in them. They have several breeds faverolles, longcrowers and silkies are the only LF's that I know of and none match these guys. I would surely hope that they don't free range all of their birds together. I wonder if a neighbor may have a fence jumping roo that paid them a visit. I don't think it's marans due to the weak leg feathering. And the adult birds I have seen from there were quality birds, not some you would expect to see at swaps or flea markets.

I popped over there too. Here is what their mixed egg grab bag says (so they might have a few they don't normally breed for hatching eggs there): Simply put, this is a random mix of whatever odds and ends we might have at the moment. Breeds could include: Bantam Phoenix, Bantam Sumatra, Bantam Salmon Faverolles, Standard Faverolles, Giants, Serama, Old English, Denizli, Silkies, Showgirls, and whatever else might be running around our place!

Ahh ok, I didn't see that part on my phone. Well I hate to have to wait another month, but I really hope that the replacement eggs are what I paid for, even though these little mutts are very cute.

They are super-cute! Think of it as a bonus: more chickens. We have a Favorelles and she is everyone's favorite. My daughter calls her The Little Duckling cuz she follows you around. She is prone to bullying by the other mean girls, poor dear. It's very good you will have multiples so they can hang together.

Can't wait to see what these ones turn out like-- be sure to update as they grow!

More chickens isn't always better when you have limited space though. I will probably keep 2 and the rest I will sucker my friend into taking, she loves barred birds and her chicken math is even worse then mine lol
I'm somewhat familiar with faverolles, my favorite breed. I had more, but a storm damaged the coop and a predator killed all but 1 little roo, he is only about 3 months old. Boba Fett (the roo) now hangs out with my d'uccle hen, which works out well. I have 2 ameraucanas, but they stay in another run. I will have SG dorkings and red dorkings hatching in 2 weeks, those guys have a similar personality so they should do great with them.
Sometimes they surprise you who works well with who. I figured the d'uccles were too active and 'in your face' for the fav's, but they are like a little couple. She jumps around and is silly and not afraid of anything and he is protective and worries himself sick about her. lol

Please come down, you are going to fall and break a wing
