Whose egg is it anyway? (Pic heavy)

Jess only measured 1 finger on pelvic bone exam, but her and shadow's comb & waddles have like doubled in size and color in 48 hours...so maybe she is going to lay her first egg very soon. 👍
Im still not positive on who really laid that first egg. It could be shadow, but she is still super skiddish, not checking out boxes, not squating. I will bust them eventually! Lol

No more eggs yet!
Reason ... we tore down their fully wired run Saturday, and are building another coop & run behind their current coop. So they are very confused and possibly stressed. Jess has been doing lots of egg laying behavior buy not wanting to be in or go back into the coop once let out to range. Im worried about possible egg binding.

Rosie the black sexlink did do the squat today.

I got a new egg!!!!
It took 20 weeks 3 days! Every first time egg lay is just as exciting as the first ever egg I got! 😁
I didnt catch the culprit in action, but Jess has been in the nest daily so...

Her comb and waddle growth the last week was astronomical! Her vent is now pale pinkish & barely yellow and oval shaped. Last week it was round and rich yellow color. Her pelvic bone spread is now 2 1/2 fingers instead of 1 last week. She is like over the top friendly and squats constantly now! Lol

This egg is noticeably smaller than the first egg I found last week.

Of course thier new coop will be done today, so she probably will stop laying while adjusting to her new home! Lol

Got 2 more eggs today in the new coop!. I think they are from new layers. One was on the floor of the coop and one in the new nest box (very thin & cracked)! Im thinking I have 3-4 new layers out of 12 (ages 16-20 weeks). Im going to try and check their pelvic bones tonight and will update this post.

What are their diets, I'm jealous of your bright orange yolks, I have 6 Buff Orpingtons and THE WAIT IS KILLING ME, they are about 18 weeks, so still a little time yet, but I want it to be worth it!

I make all natural feed for them and add a good layer pellet, and free range at least 4 times a week. I believe that cracked egg came from my 6 year old comet. She had stopped laying. I caught her in the nest box the other day ( she is ending a molt) she didnt lay in the box, but the next morning there was another egg like that on the floor under where she roosted. That would be only 2 eggs from her since june. She quit laying and became "ROOSTER" when 2 feral cats got in the coop and killed 4 pullets.

I understand the wait game. I still have at 4 pullets not laying at 26 weeks!!!

Final update on the pullets & egg (in original order) the day of first egg... now that all are laying...finally! Lol

After this whole journey, I am thinking that egg didnt belong to any of the pullets! I believe the culprit, after all, is my 6 year old golden comet Chickaletta!!! She stopped laying for months, but has started dropping eggs randomly. Some look good, others look horrible! Different shapes, color shades, thickness! Here she is today after a fresh molt, and the double yolker she laid yesterday!

I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND CHICKENS....BUT I WILL ALWAYS LOVE THEM!!!
