I just found the egg on the left (for comparison the white egg is run of the mill store bought large egg) pretty much in the middle of our yard. I have no idea who it belongs to. At first it appeared greenish gray. I took it over to the flock and of course all the chickens (2 buff orpingtons, 1 new hampshire red, 2 barred rocks) all tried to peck at it as did the single pekin duck we have. The 3 mallards wanted nothing to do with the situation.
My gut says it's one of the mallards but since it is our first egg I have no idea who the culprit is.
Everyone is only about 4 months old, all born the last week in March. It was my understanding that the chickens wouldn't start laying until they were 5 to 6 months old.
Anyway would love to know who this egg belongs to, why they are not sitting on it, and why in the heck it was laid in the middle of the yard??
I know nothing about ducks, but none of your chicken breeds, Orph NHR an BR, should lay green eggs, and pekin ducks are lighter colored, so I would assume they would lay light eggs.
