Hi everyone,

Can anyone help me figure out whose mum is whose? I don’t know much about genetics.

The father is the blue bantam Orpington in pictures #1 & #2.

The mothers are:
- the hyaline/ISA production red in picture #3
- the black australorp in picture #4
- the leghorn cross in picture #5

We hatched two sets of babies:
- the two bluish and one white/splash in picture #6
- the bluish, black and lovely caramel patterned ones in picture #7

My guess is that the bluish chicks came from the australorp, the white splash from my leghorn cross (she is black splash, the picture doesn’t show a lot of her black feathers), and the caramel from my hyaline. But where did the black cockerel come from? He did have a little white patch under his chin at some point during his feathering-in.

If anyone can help me understand the genetics I would really appreciate it!

Blue birds have a blue allele and a black allele so your Orpington has a chance of passing either blue or black to his offspring.
