Why am I having so much trouble selling my eggs?

Just another suggestion...post pics of the EE eggs with your auction and on your website. People like to see the egg color they may be getting/hatching.

And yes, like they said, in order to sell anything these days, you need pics of your stuff, the better quality the picture the better intrest you will get in them. You can have some of the best stuff out there, but without pics, or poor quality pics, no one will buy them any more.
I dont blame you for loving your birds either, that's a big plus in any breed!!
But you do have to look to see where they money makers are if you want to pay for the feed bill with them, rarer the better, and for some reason the craz is on lavender stuff now a days

The people who can make money at this are few and far between. Any little bit helps with the feed, but it takes a lot of marketing and footwork to "make" anything.

well ive gotten a ton of bites from craigslist, but i dont know if they are going to get anywhere

i would think there would be a buyer for every breed and every egg listing. i'm going to get new and better pictures and try again. i remember last spring there was a thing for EE's and everyone had them. i guess chickens have fads too. im going to try to do some more foot work. the seramas are generating way more interest than anything but my swedes are definatly the most requested.

Craigslist is weird, I always have people email me wanting something I DON"T have, like if I advertize Roos or chicks, they want laying hens???

Or they want chicks, just not now. Or they'd like me to pick out 5 hens and a Roo out of my day olds...

I do find you also need to be either competative on price, or have something no one else does. Pictures help a whole lot, plus make sure you "sell" the breed too, someone looking for RIR might decide to try yours instead.

My Fav place to sell is at auctions though, granted, you don't always get what you would selling privately, but you don't have to field a ton of emails or have weird people come to your house!

i agree with the crazies!!! ive just started these are my first eggs EVER to sell and im just now starting out and its rough because no one knows me and i really have no customers to haver relations with

...... I had one lady today ask me if i could sex the chicks in the egg

im like "um no..." then i got like 10 emails asking if i would have any in like a month and i smile and go "yes" then i have the ones that ask all kinds of questions want to set up a pick up date and then never email back

I defently agree its all about supply and demand I have actually had to stop taking names for my Fav bantams I have a list of at least 5 people and someone is always asking to be added to my list

I love the auctions and I think after I get these orders filled I am really going to STOP taking any names and just do auctions. I will also not have eggs for sale for a while after I start setting eggs as I will be down to 4 hens and a roo. I will say you always need to breed to SOP and try and better your stock. I am just starting out but I started out paying a ton of $$ for started stock. Now I have the best bloodlines in the country and cannot wait to see what my next generations look like. I would say keep in simple and breed the best bird you can breed. Also I think supply and demand has a huge effect and there are fads in chickens for sure Lavender anything is selling high these days! I also have probably had success because bantam Faverolles and any faverolles for that matter are hard to find. Marketing and good pictures matter so focus on that to. Build your reputation if you don't have good customer satisfaction you will never be able to sell anything on BYC no matter how nice!

Good luck its been an awsome learning experiance and a fun first "buisness" I am pretty much yet to make my first dollar of the buisness ha ha but its a great hobby and they are paying for feed.
