My EE'ers will be two y/o end of Feb. and have been good layers until recently and I don't know why! The girls had started to return to normal laying about 3-4 weeks ago, after their winter/molt break ... still slow, but getting better and then all came to a screeching halt. I haven't gotten one single egg in over 3 weeks - from 16 hens ( + 1 roo). Days are getting longer, still have them on layer pellets plus a little scratch in the p.m. for a treat, and they have 1/2 acre to forage. No one's been sick other than one hen with an impacted crop from gobbling up carrot peelings - she's fine now.
The only thing very different is that a stray dog got in the pen and killed a hen. Afterwards, none would venture out for days and days and days - and I toted their food and water inside b/c I felt so bad for them. But now, they're back out in the sunshine, scratching, eating ... but no eggs!! I've looked everywhere - in case they're hiding/hoarding -- nothing.
I"m completely puzzled! Any thoughts?
I'm in central VA - daylight average now is about 11 hrs and I've been giving them a light for warmth several nights recently ...
