Hi!
So far 6 or 7 eggs have quit out of 24. I'm on lockdown.
But what I find very weird is that most of them that quit were from one of my hens, a sapphire gem named Gert. She is 2 yrs old and is very healthy. Never had any illnesses or anything except for frostbite. The roosters are very healthy as well. All of the roos' babies that hatched last year were in very good health.
So why are all the eggs that have quit her eggs? I think maybe 2 or 3 were other eggs from other hens but all the rest were from her. Why aren't the embryos in her eggs surviving?
I only have 2 or her surviving eggs left in the incubator currently. And they are healthy. I just hope they are strong enough to hatch out of that egg.

Thank you!

When I was serious about breeding and hatching and had nutrition and all other details dialed in.. It became evident that genetically speaking one of my hens needed more nutrition than the rest to produce viable HATCHING eggs. Using something like Rooster Booster brand Poultry Cell.. might be one consideration to try.. On the other hand.. maybe weak genetics should not be bred forward?? Also if you happen to feed a lot of treats or a lower protein feed (layer).. dual purpose breeds require more than light bodied breeds.. so if she's faster at getting to the treats.. or blah blah.. to say there may be more environmental considerations.

But I'll include a link that has *possible* causes of embryonic failure according to what day they quit on starting around page 51..

I also had some deaths in a few small eggs (not Gert's.) I turned them at least 3 times a day. I don't know why they died☹️

There was also enough ventilation.
Temp fluctuated only 3 degrees or so.
