I've always read to use pine shavings and not ceder, but I have always wondered why. I read that the ceder fumes were bad or something.

I buy pine at Southern States or Tractor Supply Co. I've never had trouble finding pine shavings.
Maybe I got it mixed up. I've still got my bags out in the coop, but I'm too lazy to get up. I'm interested, though. Hope someone knows a thing or two

I've read something about the "oils", smell can be strong maybe chickens respiratory system overload? I know it's good for "bug" control around the house :) but never used for my chickens due to the "warnings".

How do you apply it around the house? I may need some bug control. I found one bug looking suspiciously like a cockroach but I'm not sure, and I have ants, spiders, stinkbugs, ticks, flys, beetles, and moths, all coming and going in my house. :(

That I do know something about. Did you know that there are fragrances for the barn? Just hang up the diffusers, and they spray smelly stuff every so often. It's sold as a bug repellant

I use it as mulch, love the fragrance. I also use DE sprinkled around the base of my house, Hubby didn't like the white around the house but it fades & blends in after a bit plus no bugs. My brother mixes (4T/1 gal) it in a sprayer for surrounding plants/trees, leaves a faded reside but alot better than bugs.

I also spray the base of my house with that Home Defense (over the DE), it can also be used in the house. Hubby also insists on setting off foggers in the attic regularly, I think that's a waste due to the vents, wind blows it out. However won't stop cause no bugs so "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

My MIL has Spearmint planted around her back door entry, she says good fly/bug control. Not sure about that but love the smell & in teas :)

I also use bay leaf (planted some) in my cabinets, dresser drawers, food containers, storage areas, etc...

As you can guess I don't like bugs
