Why are horses generally a girl thing?

Sorry you have me confused--
Conny was talking about SIlbersee-- a gorgeous improver stallion at a German stud. Holstein as I remember. He lived out retirement in Europe, or was he brought here later?

" There is a horse here in the US that is now retired,"
Which horse are you referring to that kicked out that is in the U.S.??
He was a Selle Francais and in 87 he was sold to Sweden to stand at stud. He was used a lot to breed with Holstein mares

Starting from a young age most girls have an obsession with horses, you got all the horse toys and stuff. Eventually, some girls, mostly the rich, end up with their own horses. My question though is why there aren't many guy riders; in my area at least, there are very few guy riders I see, it's mostly girls. If I owned a horse, I would probably be called "girly". To me, horses are expensive, but look fun. They're also allowed to walk many trails too.

My theory is that horses are a girls version of dirtbikes and motorcycles. For dirtbikes and stuff, it's almost the opposite; many male riders but few female riders. The advantage of a dirtbike is cheaper start up cost, and much cheaper and easier maintenance. The disadvantage is that it's not sustainable/natural and you can't ride in State Parks, which typically allow horses. You also don't form a relationship with dirtbikes either.

But my overall question is why horses tend to be a girls thing?

I've been to places where horses aren't just girl things, they're a way of life for men and women.

Wake up, do the chores, eat breakfast, clean the stalls, work with a few horses, run to the feed store; eat lunch, clean out the horse trailer, clean more stalls, clean the waterers, drag the arena after picking up poop in it, work with more horses, finish the stalls, do the chores, eat dinner; go to the bar on horseback and enjoy the evening.

Yea now I'm starting to realize it's strictly my area that horses are a girls thing. Why? Who knows but that's the way it is

A lot of people in my area ride western (I guess they could be considered cowboys/girls) so you do see a good showing of men, but in the English disciplines you will see a more female base.

With all these posts I'm starting to realize that horses aren't just a girl thing at all. I honestly thought that though because I only see females in my area. I live in a low density suburb 20 minutes outside of Philadelphia so that may explain it, because you don't have any "cowboys" around here. An explanation would be hard to come by because this is my area, and this is a national website so nobody else would really know. The only thing I can maybe think of that may come off a bit sexist is maybe horses just aren't as fun around here. I mean we got tons of places to ride and I seriously wouldn't mind having a horse, but then again we don't have big open prairies or anything. There are trails in the 3,000 acre park, and some that to through peoples properties, but you can't just ride down the road or through random peoples yards. While it seems big to me, I guess compared to out in the county our riding space is maybe limited
