Why are my birds dying? UPDATE Laryngotracheitis

* I was wondering if it could be carbon monoxide. You mentioned heaters? What kind of heaters are you using??? Do you have detectors-- with fresh batteries?

It was an electric heater. But they started dying before I put the heater out there. I put the heater out thinking it was the cold that was killing them.

Thanks.

The "grower" you are feeding them is NOT medicated is it? You shouldn't be feeding laying hens medicated feed and a lot of grower feed is medicated.

Ruth,

No. It isn't medicated.

I've got an appointment to drop Delilah off at the state vet tomorrow for a necropsy. I will update this thread when I find out what is wrong.

Thanks.

Tami

I got the prelim findings from the state. They are saying Laryngotracheitis but they are still waiting for some other tests to come in.

I looked this up and my birds do not have the same symptoms of Laryngotracheitis. Has anyone else had this in their flock?

Thanks.

Tami

Have you tried Terramycin or Tetracycline in their water for your whole flock? Did they have contact with any mouse or rat feces??

How do their eyes look? Can you post a pic?

If it IS Laryngo I believe a vaccination after the fact will help some---it doesnt sound like Laryngo-----I think losses are about 50%--please keep us updated--I am sorry to hear about your losses
