Why are my broody hens' eggs hatching too early?

We use the term "heat index" for what it really feels like. This is a combination of the actual heat and the humidity.

You know what? You're absolutely right! What was I thinking. That's the term. I guess the heat is frying my brain. I don't know why I typed humidity. You are correct. The term is "heat index". Thanks for pointing that out to me. And the heat index was 110 yesterday.

I knew what you meant.

We are really dry here, but even without humidity we were about that hot too. Today it is only supposed to be 95 and it feels like heaven!

I had another early hatcher on yesterday. I don't know if it will survive or not. I will find out when I get home. This is so depressing. I guess I should invest in an incubator huh? But I really enjoy having broody hens and seeing them hatch eggs.

You can still use an incubator and do that. I have successfully (on every try) put newly hatched or even 2 week old chicks under a broody hen and had her instantly adopt them. I've been more successful getting chicks raised this way than letting them set on their own eggs.
