Why are my chickens always standing up while they're sitting on there eggs?

  • Is it because they are cold?

  • Or they're scared of something

If they aren't broody, they won't sit on the eggs, so the eggs won't develop and grow. You need to collect those eggs before they rot and explode. You can't make the chickens care for the eggs by putting them on the eggs. Chickens don't understand what to do, they do it by instinct, and they need to be broody to care for eggs. They won't see the eggs and think "oh, I should care for these".

If you want to hatch eggs but don't have a broody hen, get an incubator.

I already have a incubator

If the eggs have been outside for long enough, they might not be alive any more. You should probably start with new eggs.

Chickens don't sit on eggs unless they're broody. You can recognize a broody chicken because they sit on a nest and don't leave except for food, they fluff their feathers up, they make strange sounds, and they get angry and scream at you if you try to move them off the nest. Unless a chicken is acting like that, she won't sit on eggs.

Also, I noticed on another thread that you only have the one chicken, right?
It won’t do any good to incubate the eggs from your hen if she hasn’t been with a rooster....
I just wanted to be really clear, because eggs that aren’t fertilized will spoil in the incubator and make a stinky, gross mess.:sick

As for your original question of why your chicken won’t stay on the nest— maybe the hen knows her eggs aren’t fertile and that’s why she won’t sit on them (<— that I’m not sure about, because idk what flips that switch in the hen’s mind that makes her start being broody and want to stay on her eggs)

No, I had a rooster and another chicken the rooster has been mating with the chicken ever since I got her and she was abit young but Layed eggs so she Layed more eggs now I think it's still fertile is it?

Currently being important here.... someone correct me if I’m wrong, but only the next egg laid after the rooster has “done his fun” is going to be fertilized. There needs to be a new mating for each egg laid.
