why are my hens laying there eggs while there roosting at night

found 2 eggs this morning on the roost dropping board. 1 was broke other one was frozen. why are they laying them at night and not during day like the others. i close the nestbox up at night so they dont roost in the nest.

are they 1st time layers? somtimes they don't know quite how to feel about that thing inside of em.

Are you closing the nest box before it's completely dark?

i have some 7 months old and some older ones could be either ones.

yes because they want to roost in the nest at night so i close them up at 430 500 pm

iv had this happen when half my birds were roosting in the nesboxes and other half on the roost and still find eggs under roost mostly all frozen.

i closed the nests up at night so they will use the roost instead .

is there a reason you don't want them roosting in the nests? my chickens are crazy and wild, and lay eggs on the floor, in the nests, off cliffs, in dirt holes, in the snow, in the Goose house etc... I'm thrilled when i find them INSIDE the coop!!!

yes because they poop in the nests and the eggs get poopy.​
