Why are my hens loosing feathers on thier backs?

It's not a molt. I think it's from the rooster mating with them. I have 1 rooster in with 8 hens. Isn't that a good ratio? What can I do to stop this? My poor hens are looking sad

Yep it's your rooster. You can buy aprons to protect their feathers if you want. I have 18 hens to one roo and I still have several hens that are losing their feathers, lol!

You're right, it's the roo. Get them hen saddles if you want.

We have 1 roo and 12 hens, about 4 of them have bare backs! When it gets bad enough we end up seperating him with a different hen. If it is summer our chickens get really bad sunburns were there feathers are missing, so we constantly apply tripple antibotic ointment. The feathers should come back pretty quickly and the roo can come back.
