why aren't my hens laying?

my hens are 7 months old why won't they lay?

ya maybe but my older hens never stopped laying through winter so i dont know:/

There are not enough hours of daylight these days to seriously stimulate their bodies to start laying. My teenagers finally started laying this month at 7 months old. Hang in there, yours will too. What breed are they?

i have black giants and buffs

My teenagers are big girls too - standard cochins, wyandottes and brahmas. They were just over 7 months when they started. It's the type of birds and the season keeping them from laying. Maybe if they were more production type, like reds, sex-links or leghorns they'd have already started.
