So I have 6 chickens 2 Cochins, 1 bard rock, 1 buff Orpington, an 1 australorp and and 1 Easter egger. Well we got them in the beginning of march but we have only averaged an egg or two some days and then no eggs some days. Sometimes it's a ref brown egg and then sometimes it's a light brown egg and then like twice it's been an almost white cream egg. Trying to figure out what's going on? New to chickens so any knowledge is helpful

My March girls are just starting to lay. The Cochin's may take longer if they are really big girls.
My red Cochin's started this week but my much larger blues look to be a ways out yet.

Be patient as it takes a bit to get the egg factory running at full capacity.

I know we love to spoil the girls but that can slow laying too. Keep those treats to a minimum.
;)

Also can an Easter egger lay an almost white egg because no other chicken I have is suppose to be anything close to white

My red Cochin's lay nearly white. I caught her in the box yesterday so waited to find out. Of course I did so politely outside the coop.

The extra scratch and veggies that the birds love tend to throw the protein balance off. We have to remind ourselves that it is like giving a kid a cookie before dinner.

If you got your birds the first of March, they are now only 6 months old. They may well be too young still to lay.

That and a diet that may be appropriate for a human and not a hen could also render your chickens to malnourished to lay. Lay off the leftovers.

Also why is it that the few that lay randomly only lay late morn through the afternoon? I thought chickens payed in the morning.
