Why Arn't Duck Eggs Popular?

Eggs from my ducks are really working out great for me,I'll eat them my dogs get one or more a day,but still end up with 2-3 dozen a day, found a buyer she comes by once a week and buys all I can get her at $5.00 per dozen.
Like most new things at first your supply will be bigger then the demand but one or 2 good buyers and things will change.

This has been a great discussion - thanks everyone!

My runners will, Lord willing, be laying toward the end of summer. I have eleven females (at least, as far as I can tell from their quacks). If they lay the purported 200 eggs per year . . . I will be looking to sell them!

Most definately the coturnix. Get a good jumbo line. Their eggs are at least three times the size of button eggs (hold up, I'll get a picture for you in a minute), and they're not as finicky of layers. Buttons are really a pain in the tush. It's like comparing a cat to a dog, where dogs are usually very easy to please and cats usually must have everything their own way. The buttons cannot be bothered too often, for the most part, they can't be put in a heavy traffic area, they can't be kept outside over winter (or very cold nights), they are known to kill themselves if you spook them, etc. I'm lucky if I get an egg a day from a pen with five hens. The coturnix, my original hen was laying an egg a day until the fox started showing up. I bought three more hens at a sale and one hen laid an egg in the auction box and laid one every day until the fox came. So, in the end, definately coturnix.

The button egg is 4g and the coturnix is 11g. It's a blurry pic, but you get the idea.

In my experience, duck eggs aren't more popular than they are because people are weird about food. The same people get freaked out by eating ducks eggs that only want ketchup on their burgers, don't like lettuce because it's too crunchy, refuse to eat meat off the bone, etc. Anybody I know that likes food in general is all about duck eggs, especially in recipes. My meatballs are 100% better with duck eggs; They're richer, stick together better and fry prettier.

Edit: Oh, and my Cantonese friends love them. My ex-boss now asks for eggs every time he sees me so his wife can make 皮蛋, the supposed "Century Eggs ."

Coturnix eggs have to be some of the prettiest eggs you will ever see in your LIFE. I almost hate to crack them open. ALMOST

(But if you don't crack them you can't see that pretty blue/green color of the inside of the shell!)
