Why become a breeder if you won't respond to inquiries.

Aside from personal satisfaction and show ribbons why bother with breeding up a line of poultry. I assumed one might want to share, for a nice fee of course, the product of your effort but I guess I am wrong.
There are several breeds of poultry I am interested in and over the past month I have scoured this site and the net to attempt to locate who may or may not have good lines. You would be surprised at how many emails and private messages go unanswered and ignored.
Sadly, all of the replies I have gotten are from folks no longer keeping birds.

Over 4000 birds are entered in the Knoxville APA National show this weekend. I'd guess there would be a few breeders you could meet and greet there.

Breeders may have little interest in responding to all the contacts they get from people they've never met. Just saying. 90% of such emails get caught by the spam filters. There is still an important human aspect of this fancy. Meeting people face to face, while looking at the birds? Not a much better way than that. There are many other shows coming up, throughout the South, over the next few months. Want to meet the breeders in person?, go to where they gather. At the exhibitions.

I understand it's "out of season" just trying to reach out and see what may be available "in season" and if possible to get my order in early. I also understand the direct approach but traveling five hours isn't an option unless I am making the trip to purchase a specific bird.
I try to attend anything local (Newnan, GA an hour away) and see what I can.

There are also a lot of breeders, mostly the older, long time breeders, who do not have websites, don't do facebook or email. Have you joined the APA (you will get their yearbook with advertisements) or subscribed to the Poultry Press? Aside from those sources I think local large APA sanctioned shows would be your best bet in locating breeders.
