Why 'chooks"

Another 'dumb' question.....
I keep seeing folks refer to their chickens as 'chooks'. What does that mean? .... Duh - I know it means chickens.. but where did it come from???
Just one of those things that makes me go "hummmmmm"

I love the Australians on this site. They have funny names for things and are very polite. I want to live in a place where everyone says G'Day when they see you.

Apparently Chook is a full grown chicken, and a disrepectful name for women
