I think that "sudden death syndrome" would be a good conclusion. It would not be uncommon for the other chicken to eat the others feathers, or for the chicken to go through a funny molt. Glad you found a companion for the remaining hen.

I know - I should post more frequently! I seem to not get updates from threads that i've subscribed to - but that appears to be working better now.

anyway, no i dont remember her comb turning blue, it was just pale - not as full red as it usually was.

apparently the sudden death syndrome is quite common - for an informal indication type "sudden chic" into google and see what it starts to bring up! I guess with these birds there's only so much you can do, even if you ARE vigilant and do catch any symptoms quickly. I mean, this was literally a matter of minutes.

OMG! I didn't even realize this thread was that old. Wow... so did you get your hen a friend or what??
